INTRODUCTION: Ankit Rohilla (Rohilla), an intern at HCL Infosystems Ltd., India, had been given an assignment by his company guide – to come up with recommendations relating to the company’s mutual fund investments. Rohilla had only 12 weeks in which to do this but he decided to take it up as a challenge and prove his mettle. Though the work had been given to an intern, the company guide was serious about it and wanted Rohilla to figure out an optimal investment strategy in mutual funds. Rohilla was aware of the significance of the assignment and hoped he would be able to find a solution. To achieve it within the time limit, Rohilla decided to divide his internship goal into different phases and started working on it. As his company guide had suggested, he began by getting an understanding of the company and about mutual funds in general.
